Weak demand sees house prices fall – Nationwide

House prices fell by 0.5% in July on the back of weak buyer demand, according to the latest Nationwide Monthly House Price Index.

The annual rate of house price inflation fell back further from 8.7% to 6.6%, as buyers remain in short supply.

Total searches for overseas property were down 7% in June but up by 138% on the same period last year.

Next few months pivotal in terms of new homes recovery

The number of registrations to build new homes in the UK dipped during June, according to NHBC, but was still up on the same month last year.

NHBC recorded 9263 registrations during the month, compared with 10,870 in May this year and 8305 in June 2009.
