Landlords see robust performance from arrears

Landlords have been celebrating a strong performance from tenant arrears last year, according to latest research by LSL.  

Despite fears over the impact of the recession, and six consecutive months of rent rises, 84% of landlords saw arrears remain stable or fall in the past 12 months. 

Third of social tenants homeless by Housing Benefit changes

According to a recent survey from Upad.co.uk a third of social tenants could be made homeless by the upcoming changes in housing benefit legislation.

Private landlords intended responses to the changes announced by the Chancellor in June, include: capping the level of Local Housing Allowance (LHA) payable to between £250 per week for a one-bedroom property, and the highest level of £400 per week for a four-bedroom property.

Smokers face housing crisis

The growing intolerance of landlords towards smokers is causing a growing housing crisis for smokers.

In research from Easyroommate.co.uk more than 580,000 UK smokers depend on flatsharing for their accommodation but 67% of them are living in non-smoking accommodation.

Connells secures multi-million pound land disposal instruction

Connells Land & Planning Division has been awarded a multi-million pound land instruction from Capel House Property Trust Limited to manage the sale of land in North-East Daventry, Northamptonshire.

Monksmoor Farm, a 125-acre development opportunity with planning permission approved by the Secretary of State for up to 1,000 new homes including 350 affordable homes, will  come to the market in September 2010. 

£136m regeneration of Ealing estate gets go-ahead

An estate in West Ealing, London, is to be transformed with high-quality new homes and community facilities after Ealing Council gave the green light to a massive £136m regeneration project.

The Green Man Lane estate regeneration team, which includes local housing provider A2Dominion, developer Rydon and architect Conran & Partners, was granted outline planning permission for the masterplan and detailed planning consent for phase one of the scheme.

Nationwide: August house prices fall by 0.9%

House prices fell by 0.9% in August according to the latest Nationwide Monthly Housing Review issued today.

The three month rate of change shows price stagnation over the summer whilst the percentage of borrowers on variable mortgages has increased.

Detached house prices rise by £91 a day

The average price of a detached family home has risen by more than any other property type over the past year, according to new research by Halifax.

Based on Halifax’s own house price data, owners of detached properties have seen the value of their home increase by £91 a day over the past year with the average price rising by 13% from £266,060 in 2009 Quarter 2 to £299,295 in 2010 Quarter 2. Prices for all other property types rose by 8-9% over the period.

Housing benefit cuts and CGT increase affect Landlord confidence

Confidence among landlords has dipped for the first time in almost two years, driven by uncertainties including housing benefits and tax changes announced in the emergency budget, according to the latest NLA Landlords’ Optimism Index.

The Index dropped from 51 to 47 points between Q1 and Q2 2010.
